November Speaker Meeting Recap: “Pathways in Construction: Women’s Journeys” with Jody Staruk

Our November Chapter Meeting was warm, welcoming, and well-attended. A huge thank-you to Skye and Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects for hosting us in their beautiful space and for spoiling us with the delicious burrito bar!

This month’s Membership Spotlight centered on Pathways in Construction: Women’s Journeys featuring our guest speaker, Jody Staruk—a longtime local NAWIC member and the first female Project Executive at Consigli. Jody led us through an engaging, candid, and often funny look at the phases of her professional and personal life, framed like a construction project:

Phase 1: The Plans

Where her story began—big ideas, early aspirations, and the spark that led her into the construction industry.

Phase 2: The Foundation

Mentors, bosses, and colleagues who believed in her potential, had her back, and helped her build confidence and credibility.

Phase 3: The Structure

Career growth, leadership development, and the pivotal moments that shaped her into the trailblazer she is today.

Phase 4: The Exterior

Balancing jobsite demands with life at home—running major projects and a busy household with two daughters, with teamwork from her husband woven into every success.

Phase 5: The Landscape

The broader vision—what it means to support the next generation of women at Consigli and beyond.

Jody had the room laughing with her signature honesty, including her favorite jobsite clarification: “When subs are complaining about a decision “these guys” made on a job site—“these guys” is ME!”

And she spoke with heartfelt conviction about finding her path and setting an example for other women:

“I want them to see there is room for women to grow—but it’s gotta work out, because there’s no backsies.”

President Korinne closed out the evening with updates from our monthly meeting—including exciting progress on planning our 2026 event calendar.
